2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Earns Five-Star Crash Score

CARS.COM — Hyundai got some good news from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration: The refreshed-for-2017 Santa Fe Sport midsize SUV earned five stars in its crash tests.

Both the 2017 Santa Fe Sport's front- and all-wheel-drive versions earned fives in frontal and side crash tests and four stars for rollovers. NHTSA awards an overall score of up to five stars based on a vehicle's performance in frontal crash, side crash and rollover evaluations.

The 2016 Santa Fe Sport also earned a five-star rating from NHTSA, but got a marginal score in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's small front overlap test. No word yet on when IIHS will test the updated-for-2017 model.

The 2017 Santa Fe Sport matches the 2016 Subaru Outback's five-star safety rating, while besting the Nissan Murano, last fully rated for 2015 when it received four stars overall.
